On December 2, the University of Guelph set out to raise $50,000 within 50 hours, a goal that was reached within the first 8 hours. Over the course of the two-day online campaign an amazing $197,218.53 was raised.
Byron Beeler, M.Sc. ’63.
Thanks to generous donors and a matching gift from alumnus Byron Beeler, M.Sc. ’63, who provided a matching donation of $2500, $7007.50 of those funds will be going toward improving horse health through Equine Guelph’s Greatest Need Fund.
"Byron Beeler was the first Chair of Equine Guelph and his vision and direction were helpful in defining a role for Equine Guelph within the community” says Gayle Ecker, Director of Equine Guelph. “To have his continuing support of our programs is so important and so wonderful to see."
Founded in 2003, Equine Guelph is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of horses and enhancing equine industry knowledge through education, research, healthcare promotion and industry development.
Beeler explains that his support of Equine Guelph is based on the impact and commitment he sees in key equine veterinarians at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) as well as Ecker’s work in representing OVC to the worldwide equine community.
“Giving to U of G is a great way to leave a legacy that will impact generations to come” Beeler shares on the campaign’s fundraising page.
And, it is through the continued support of alumnus, like Beeler, that helps OVC deliver on that legacy, adds Stefanie Sharp, OVC Alumni Advancement Manager.
“This generosity truly illustrates the importance of the philanthropic tradition to the future success of this university and its students.”
