The OVC’s Ruminant Field Service (RFS) is saying “thank you” this month to clients who play a critical role in supporting the college’s teaching mission.
The RFS will host a client education day Dec. 18 that includes lunch as well as brief talks by OVC practitioners on relevant topics for producers.
“It’s one way for us to say ‘thank you’ to our clients for the important role that they play in teaching,” said Dr. Todd Duffield, Population Medicine. “It’s also providing them with some CE and raising awareness about the work we’re doing beyond teaching to improve the overall health of our dairy and beef herds and small ruminants. It’s a great opportunity for us all to get together and interact off the farm.”
The RFS has been looking after the emergency and herd health needs of Guelph area dairy, beef, sheep and goat farms for 60 years. It has played a critical role in educating generations of veterinarians by providing hands-on experience working on farms with producers and their animals.
The client day will feature talks by members of the service including Dr. Jessica Gordon on ketosis and other research; Dr. Cynthia Miltenburg on managing hypocalcemia and endometritis; Dr. Paula Menzies on resistance to deworming drugs in small ruminants; and Dr. Jeff Rau providing practical tips on topics such as caring for newborn calves after a difficult birth.
