A reception last week provided an opportunity to recognize and thank Dr. Cate Dewey who recently concluded her tenure as Chair of OVC’s Department of Population Medicine.

Noting the position of department chair is a challenging one, OVC Dean Jeff Wichtel highlighted Dewey’s global view of the impact a human can have. “She is always looking out for humanity, whether it is a microcosm of her own research or up to a global level.”
Department colleagues Scott McEwen and current Population Medicine chair Todd Duffield also honoured Dewey noting she led through example by being an excellent teacher and great researcher. They also noted more than half the department’s current faculty joined under her tenure as chair: “many of them are here, which is an outstanding testament to Cate’s leadership.”
“Cate really instilled a culture of mentorship amongst faculty and worked hard to foster that team environment,” added Duffield.
“It is the people who make the workplace special,” noted Dewey, “We have fabulous faculty, staff and students in this department and we just keep attracting more fabulous people. That means that we have a rich and wonderful place to work.”
