“Hi, I’m Suvi! I’m a grade 9 student visiting the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph today for "Take our #KidstoWork Day” @TLPCanada. Today I followed the OVC communications team and was given the opportunity to witness a CT scan of a cat with some nasal issues. Wheezy Louisi came into the Companion Animal Hospital with breathing trouble and nasal discharge. She was given a CT scan of her head, from nose tip to cervical vertebrae. She was injected with 7ml contrast through her blood vessels to help indicate any issues. The scan revealed contrast uptake in the area of interest. Results will now be reviewed by a radiologist to determine her treatment.“
“This male Golden Eagle was presented to the OVC Avian and Exotic Service at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph for a wound on the right tarsus that he self-induced trying to remove its leg band. He is part of a captive breeding pair of golden eagles bred for falconry purposes. He was in for a recheck of its wound and rebandaging. We have also been monitoring healing using a thermographie camera. On the initial examination, you can see that the affected leg is much warmer (brighter) than the other one suggested increased inflammation of the leg. While the wound is still healing, both legs are now of similar temperature.”
“ Meet Hazel “I donated blood today! ❤💉🐶 wagged my tail the whole time 😍💃#savealife#giveblood thank you to @royalcanincanada for sponsoring my goodie bag!” Repost @hazelsfanclub_. How does OVC’s Blood donor program help pets? Pets come to the Ontario Veterinary College each day needing lifesaving procedures. Approximately 500 blood transfusions are given to patients each year to help pets in need of critical care. This would not be possible without amazing donors like Hazel. Currently OVC has about 50 dogs in the Guelph area taking part. After applying to be a blood donor, dogs receive a complete check-up before joining the program. They give blood once every two or three months, and donate approximately 450 grams of blood each time — about the same as a human blood donor. The process takes close to an hour. Thank you Hazel and thanks to ALL of our donors! Learn more about OVC’s Blood Donor Program or find out how YOUR dog could participate at link in bio 🔝🔝 “
