The OVC’s annual United Way campaign has once again exceeded expectations.

As of Nov. 30, the College community had raised $40,200  — 103% of the target — with more donations still to be counted, said Jennifer Beehler, a former campaign co-chair and co-ordinator of this year’s College Idol fundraiser.

Overall, the University of Guelph has raised $554,432 this year, including more than $10,000 donated by students.

U of G president Alastair Summerlee announced the total at a volunteer appreciation event held Dec. 7, acknowledging the campaign co-chairs and the employee, student and retiree volunteers who organized the fundraising drive. “I am awestruck once again by the tremendous enthusiasm of campus volunteers and the generosity of the University community.

“Your support for the United Way is a demonstration of deep caring for your community and for those who need a helping hand,” he said. “Thank you for seeing and answering the growing need for the services and programs that are funded by the United Way.”

In the last five years, the University of Guelph community has donated more than $2.5 million to Guelph Wellington Dufferin United Way.
