When asked about their interest in OVC’s Global Vets program both Co-President Emma Delitala & Stephanie Guiler agree that their motivation to become involved is fueled by their passion for helping those in need.
"We plan to continue the remarkable legacy started here at the Ontario Veterinary College in 1997" says Guiler. "We want to take from the knowledge and experience we have gained from OVC and from past mentors, and apply it to the best of our abilities to make a change in animal welfare in developing countries."
"Our hope is to work in synergy with our colleagues abroad and help bridge the gap in veterinary medicine between Canada and other countries" adds Delitala.
And that synergy is at the heart of the Global Vets philosophy which emphasizes the importance of collaboration and fostering partnerships. This years’ team plans to continue this work by giving back to the their host communities, strengthening relationships with the organizations they visit, and raising awareness with colleagues here in Ontario.
Delitala further explains that the program is a perfect opportunity for students to use their gained knowledge to improve animal welfare, agricultural development, and ecosystem health overseas. “All while developing lasting international relationships, and growing immensely as future veterinarians”, she adds.
Overall, it looks like 2015 is shaping up to be an exciting one for OVC Global Vets, and Guiler proudly describes the coming years’ team as “comprised of hardworking, determined individuals who want to make a positive change in this world, be it big or small.”
