Orientation begins next week. Ties and beanies optional.
The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) is preparing to welcome 120 new DVM students as Orientation gets underway Sept. 2.
A variety of events, talks and group activities will take place throughout the next few weeks as members of the Class of 2018 are introduced to life at OVC. The orientation schedule includes welcomes from the dean and associate deans and department chairs, a class photo, tours of OVC and the U of G campus as well as the City of Guelph, and social events including a “Meet & Greet” and the annual CVSA Corn Roast.
Orientation at OVC offers a mix of meaningful learning experiences and fun events, said Elizabeth Lowenger, student affairs manager. New students will be given tips on how to make the most of their OVC experience and participate in fun group activities like choosing a class mascot.
New this year is the Selfie Scavenger Hunt on Sept. 2 from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. designed to help members of the Class of 2018 orient themselves to common areas they will frequent over the next four years. The orientation committee encourages faculty and staff to “photobomb” these selfies if they see the opportunity.
Orientation is a community effort, said Lowenger, who thanked co-chairs Patrick Boelsterli and Katelyn Guagliano as well as summer student assistant Amanda Li, plus members of the orientation committee including: Stephanie Lovell, Kandice Runyon, Kristen Frederick, Tanya Hnatejko, Jared Louw, Kevin Colliver, Brittany Vivian, Chanel Schwartzentruber, Alanna Backx, Kristina Toth, Cassandra Fohring, Melissa Wagner, Sarah Hall, Laura Omeljaniuk, Daniella Rizzo, Andrew Chong, Kevin Colliver.
