OVC’s “gentleman MP” dies at 95

A highly respected former Ontario Veterinary College pathology professor and “gentleman MP” passed away last week.

Dr. James D. Schroder died peacefully on Friday at the age of 95.

An OVC ’42 graduate, Schroder joined the army served overseas during the Second World War and then returned to Guelph to join the faculty of the OVC. He served in a number of capacities, including chair of pathology, until his retirement in 1983.

Throughout his life, Schroder was very active in the community and took on leadership roles in a number of organizations including the Guelph General Hospital Board and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. He served as the Liberal MP for Guelph from 1980 to 1984.
