University of Guelph graduate students will showcase their research accomplishments at this week’s Graduate Student Research Symposium.
The daylong symposium will include 46 posters and 32 oral presentations on topics ranging from targeting leukemia with cancer-killing viruses to identifying risk factors for antimicrobial resistance in broiler flocks to examining waterborne disease outbreaks in Ontario.

The 10th annual symposium takes place Wednesday in the OVC Lifetime Learning Centre. Poster presentations get underway at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria.
The day includes the 2013 Schofield Memorial Lecture featuring Dr. Ian York of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. York is an OVC graduate whose current research is focused on antibody-based and cellular immunity to influenza viruses, links between immunity and viral evolution and pathogenicity, and evaluating and improving influenza vaccination.
York’s talk, titled “Influenza and the animal-human interface,” will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Room 1714.
The event wraps up with a reception and awards presentation following the lecture.
