This new feature in the OVC Bulletin from the organizational health team focuses on Organizational Health and the Power of People. Our goal with this virtual corner is to get the whole college talking about specific aspects of organizational health.
Just this past week the Interim Associate Vice
President (Academic), Dr. Cate Dewey encouraged all members of the University’s
leadership teams to follow the advice shared at a recent Wellness at Work workshop. She encouraged the cancellation of regular meetings
for two weeks during this academic year specifically during the weeks of October
8 to 12, 2018 and February 19 to 23, 2019. Although this will be challenging
to do, the dean is encouraging all faculty and staff to consider this suggestion. Even if we are only able to reduce the
number of meetings scheduled we will be on the right track. After the two suggested
moratoriums are over, we will ask for feedback on whether it was a valuable experiment.
In keeping with the theme of meetings you may enjoy this very brief Ted Talk (referred
to as a ‘snack talk’!). The 3 minute talk
is entitled “Got a meeting - Take a walk” This is something that can be
practiced throughout the year. In addition, you are all encouraged to think about
the quality of the meetings you schedule or are asked to attend. We can probably all do a better job of making
these meetings as valuable as possible. The
following link may provide you with practical information about running a good meeting
