An Ontario Veterinary College pathologist is the new president-elect of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP).
Prof. Dorothee Bienzle, in the Ontario Veterinary College’s Department of Pathobiology, will begin her term as ACVP President-Elect, 2018, immediately following the 2017 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, running November 3 to 8, 2017. The position is based on election by ACVP members and involves a three-year term of president-elect, president and past president. The last Canadian president of ACVP was OVC Pathology professor Tom Hulland in 1973.

The American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) is the oldest veterinary specialty organization recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association and has set the standard for veterinary pathology since 1949.
Bienzle’s research focuses on better ways to diagnose and treat inflammatory lung diseases such as asthma, as well as blood cell disorders and effects of infection with the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) in cats, which is very similar to HIV infection in humans. Her research team is studying the effects of key proteins and their role in the development of asthma in horses, also known as recurrent airway obstruction or heaves.
