You and your dog are asked to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Lee Niel and PhD student Anastasia Stellato from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph.

Veterinary visits are stressful for dogs, and part of this stress is due to handling that is necessary for examination and procedures. This research aims to improve veterinary care for dogs by identifying and reducing stress during routine veterinary examinations.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION

  • Dog owners must be 18 years or older.
  • Dogs must be 1-8 years old, have up to date vaccinations, and no current medical conditions.

PROCEDURES

  • A PhD student will perform a routine physical examination on your dog, using various handling techniques with background noise.
  •  Pictures and video recordings will be taken during all sessions and used for later analysis.
  • Testing will take approximately 30 minutes.
  • Dog owners are asked to remain in the waiting area while their dog is taken into an examination room.
