Each week we will be highlighting posts to show what’s new on Instagram for those that do not have an account. Thank you to everyone who has shared with us so far.

“ Congratulations to Rose Rumney an OVC Student who Achieved the Highest Possible Score on the NAVLE!!! 800 out of 800!! Rumney is only the fourth student to achieve the highest possible result out of the 54,000 candidates who have taken the NAVLE in the past 16 years. The NAVLE exam is required for graduates of accredited veterinary schools to become licensed in North America and internationally. The average score in 2015-16 was 513.”  Read more on the University of Guelph website.

“ On rotation:  Fourth year DVM students Caitlin and Veronica performing an abdominal ultrasound on a cat on their Radiology Rotation. “What you see going on is a method of restraint that does not require the use of drugs like dexmedetomidine. Instead, we use Feliway in the room (a pheromone to relax him), The ‘disco’ lights help to distract, and entertain cats, keeping them calm during the exam.” Thanks so much for sharing @cforbe01 and Veronica!! #ovc2018#onrotation

“This year 37 student veterinarians, almost 1/3 of the class of 2019 (our highest participation ever!) have headed out on their Global Vets adventure. OVC Global Vets consists of 12 teams of student veterinarians from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph that are providing volunteer veterinary services around the world this summer.  Each group works alongside licensed veterinary teams in clinics or rehab Centres. 📷 from Alex, Julia and Goldia- One of our teams in Africa who is currently working in Malawi - “#Repost@barefootyogi For the past few days our Global Vets team has been helping the centre veterinarian with minor procedures and health checks on vervet monkeys. In this photo, I am monitoring the vitals of Whitney, who received a small hormonal implant in her arm. This implant ensures that she won’t become pregnant while she is here at the centre and will be removed before she is released back into the wild! Our team has already learned so much from our short time here and we are looking forward to the upcoming week. Tomorrow we head to Kuti Wildlife Reserve!”

OntVetCollege now has over 21,087 followers from around the world that include prevets, vet students, practicing veterinarians and veterinary teams, alumni, industry, graduate students and more. If you have something to share please email jdawkins@uoguelph.ca.
