Karen Tran has joined the University of Guelph’s Students Promoting Awareness of Research Knowledge (SPARK) team. This summer her writing will focus on the diverse veterinary research conducted at the OVC.

Karen is a third-year English and Biology student from Toronto. At SPARK, she hopes to explore her love for all animals, as well as learn about ways to improve their welfare as the OVC SPARK writer.
Karen has happily welcomed a variety of pets in her home in the past, including hamsters, bunnies, dogs, and most recently Henry the hedgehog. Lucky for them, she’s had more success with animals than plants, which have experienced her erratic watering schedule. Still, Karen is optimistic about fostering her green thumb this summer by building a vegetable garden with some of her friends. Beyond her work at SPARK, Karen enjoys learning how to take better photos, singing along to the Wicked the Musical soundtrack, and baking apple pie.
