We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gordon Kirby has been appointed to a second five-year term as associate dean, research and innovation.
The reappointment is effective June 1, 2013 and follows a review of Kirby’s first term that showed broad support in the OVC and University of Guelph communities for his leadership and vision.

“I look forward to continued collaboration with Dr. Kirby as an influential and important member of the College’s leadership team and am confident that our research and graduate student programs will continue to thrive under his guidance over the next five years,” said Dr. Elizabeth Stone, OVC dean.
Working closely with the Dean’s Council, Kirby has implemented important initiatives that enhance OVC research and graduate studies, including an innovative graduate fellowship program that helped the College meet its graduate growth targets. He is also working to increase international partnerships, including establishing links with Northwestern Agriculture University in Yangling, China.
He has developed strategies to assist faculty members, particularly those in the early stages of their careers, to improve their research success. And he is improving OVC’s research communications through a new website to aid faculty and graduate students.
Kirby has taken a very active role in the OVC integrated planning process, highlighting research in the College’s long-term strategic vision. “As an example, Gord brought together individuals from OVC and the College of Physical and Engineering Science to formulate a joint application for the Canada Research Chair in disease modelling. His efforts took persistence, patience and most importantly, creativity,” said Stone.
