Happy
World Veterinary Day everyone! This year’s theme focuses on OneHealth
and the extremely important role veterinarians play in keeping all
species, including our own, healthy and safe! “In the current era of
globalization, the emergence or re-emergence of unexpected sanitary
events is accelerating. It is estimated that five new emerging
infectious human diseases appear each year, of which three are zoonotic
(transferable between Humans and animal). The recent Ebola epidemic as
well as the too numerous human deaths caused each year by rabies, remind
us of the strong links existing between the health of people, animals
and environment and consequently the need for multi-sectoral approaches
illustrated through the ‘One Health’ concept."

“Behind the scenes at OVC with newly minted third year veterinary student, Brenna. "Before starting at OVC, I was set on becoming a small animal practitioner since I had a lot of experience working with small animals. However, this all changed when I began the veterinary medicine program here at OVC. The Clinical Medicine course made me more open-minded and helped me find my passion for the large animal species. I was able to learn the proper way of handling horses and dairy cattle as well as performing a physical exam and medication techniques. This course gave me the opportunity to work with a variety of species and ultimately aided in my decision to become a mixed animal practitioner.” Be sure to watch for Brenna’s video this summer with more info on her OVC experience. #OVC2018 “
