With 2016 well under way, and as we enter the final year and half of OVC’s current Integrated Plan 2012-2017, we look forward to the next phase of our Strategic Planning process. The College has seen tremendous growth and advancement during the 2012 – 2017 period and we now are engaging in discussions to envision a strategic plan that will be executed over the next five to 10 years from 2016 and beyond.
The purpose of this strategic renewal process is to guide OVC through a high-level planning exercise where we’ll identify our key institutional priorities and align them with the newly developing priorities of the University of Guelph.
The process will help our teams identify and prioritize issues of significance to the overall well-being and performance of OVC, clearly define objectives we must achieve in order to address these priority issues and look at ways to implement these strategies with widespread participation across the College.
A critical piece of this process will be engagement with all our constituents: external stakeholders from the veterinary profession, donors, government and private sector, and of course, you, our internal stakeholders whose contributions will make these new goals achievable.
Currently, the college has completed a draft Statement of Work document with input from members of Dean’s Council and Dean’s Advisory Committee (representative faculty and veterinarians from all departments). Next steps include an assessment from purchasing services to advise on the best plan for engagement of third-party services to help guide this planning process. As we progress updates will be provided and many of your teams will be invited to take part in building this exciting new plan.
The timing of our strategic renewal process dovetails perfectly with UofG’s strategic renewal process. The UofG’s Strategic Renewal Advisory Committee has recently completed phase one of their process and released a set of strategic themes for review and feedback from the UG Community. Once finalized, these themes will serve as the core of the overarching framework for the University’s future plans. Watch for updates on this process in the Bulletin. I encourage you to review these themes and provide feedback.
I’m tremendously excited by the opportunities presented to us all during this process, and as always invite each of you to reach out with your thoughts and include me in meetings you think would be of most benefit as we embrace our past work while creating a new path beyond 2016 to further enhance OVC’s global reputation.
