A number of OVC faculty and specialists will be bringing their expertise to talks at this year’s Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) Annual Meeting, running January 28 to 30, at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle.
Sponsored by the OVC Health Sciences Centre, the OVMA “Lunch With” sessions are always well-attended by conference delegates with in-depth interactive discussions on a variety of topics.
This year’s sessions include a variety of topics:
- Drs. Kris Ruostalo and Josepha Delay will outline maximizing the benefits of diagnostic testing;
- Dr. Michelle Oblak will discuss surgical oncology for the general practitioner;
- Dr. Hugues Beaufrère will outline sedation, analgesia and anesthesia of avian and exotic species;
- Dr. Shane Bateman will talk about managing the obstructed male cat;
- Bojena Kelmeni will discuss animal related grief and bereavement for veterinary professionals;
- Dr. Melissa Sinclair will outline anesthetic induction options for healthy and sick small animal patients;
- Dr. Tiffany Durzi and Janine Ross will discuss exercise and canine cruciate ligament injuries.
In addition, to the lunch sessions, several OVC faculty and specialists will provide information sessions during the conference. Dr. John Tait will highlight strategies surrounding nutrition to help practices grow their business during Friday’s Corporate Partner Sunset Symposia.
Dr. Lynne O’Sullivan will provide cardiology sessions covering a variety of topics including, use of cardiac biomarkers in clinical practice, differentiating cardiac from respiratory disease in the patient with respiratory signs, case-based presentation of strategies for the management of congestive heart failure and a current review of congenital cardiac disease: diagnosis and therapy. Dr. Claire Jardine will present an update on ticks and tick-borne pathogens in Ontario

Prior to the start of the conference, the OVC Alumni Association will be hosting an OVC student-alumni networking night on Wednesday, January 27 at the Westin Harbour Castle.
