Global Vets is an OVC student-run organization that focuses on veterinary aid work abroad. Every summer, teams of veterinary students travel worldwide to assist with rehabilitation programs, wildlife, zoo, and both small and large animal medicine. The ultimate goal is to promote international collaboration among students, the Ontario Veterinary College, and those involved in animal care within these communities to improve animal health and welfare, agricultural development and ecosystem health.
This year Global Vets has a total of six teams traveling to Southeast Asia and Central/South America. As a fundraising effort, we are holding our Second Annual Global Vets “Dream, Discover, Explore: Let nature be your teacher” Dinner Gala on Saturday February 6th, 2016 at the Summerlee Science Complex from 6 - 10 p.m. We would like to invite the OVC community and our mentors to join us for a formal evening including dinner, presentations about our upcoming trips, alumni from previous Global Vets initiatives, and door prizes. All proceeds will directly support Global Vets 2016 teams travelling this summer.
The Global Vets initiative would not be successful without the support and generosity of all those at OVC, and as students, we are extremely thankful for this opportunity to explore veterinary medicine and collaboration around the world. If you have any questions or would like to purchase Gala tickets, please contact us at gvets@uoguelph.ca.
Last year the event SOLD OUT, so make sure to get your tickets soon to avoid any disappointment. Ticket sales will start Friday Jan. 8th at lunch, in the LLC Hallway (in front of the OVC Café). Tickets are $50 each and include a delicious 3-course meal, plus entry into a Global Vets prize raffle!
