Pet lovers and generous donors raised more than $500,000 during the ‘a Walk in the Park’ Gala in Toronto on October 15th. The event was featured this past weekend in the Globe Style section of the Globe & Mail .
Over the course of the evening an astounding $4 million was announced to support a newly launched $9 million fundraising campaign by UofG’s OVC Pet Trust.
“Seldom does a gala evening in Canada break the $1-million mark”, the article sites and goes on to explain, “The feat came on the same
evening as an ambitious announcement from the school: a $9-million fundraising
campaign…..U of G president Franco Vaccarino
noted in a post-event statement “will help us develop medical
advancements and train tomorrow’s animal care professionals.” OVC dean
Jeff Wichtel stated more specifically that there is a need for surgery
and anesthesia facilities at the school.”
The new facilities will include state-of-the-art, specialized areas for surgery, anesthesia and recovery equipped with surgical and diagnostic video and imaging and will help further advance veterinary medical education at the OVC.
