National Veterinary Technician week (October 12 to 16) provides an opportunity to highlight and recognize the invaluable skills, dedication and compassion our technicians bring to OVC’s Health Sciences Centre (HSC).

Registered veterinary technicians are a fundamental part of the healthcare team at OVC’s HSC, providing exceptional client and patient care whether they are assisting with surgery and anesthesia, patient assessment, administering medications, working with companion animals, horses or cows, updating referral veterinarians or comforting a grieving client.

“There is no greater resource in our hospital. Our technicians are true heroes that advocate for their patients and who provide patient care second to none. They are valued colleagues and an indispensable resource that allows us all to achieve more effective client and patient care,” says Dr. Shane Bateman, OVC HSC’s Emergency and Critical Care Services.  “I tip my hat to these incredible women and men that make my life easier, funnier, richer, and most certainly more rewarding.”

“A major strength of the Oncology team at OVC is the excellent compassionate care provided by our Oncology technicians to the pets with cancer and their families,” says Dr. Paul Woods, medical oncologist in the Mona Campbell Centre for Animal Cancer.

This month’s American Animal Hospital Association’s Trends magazine pays tribute to veterinary technicians and their key role as part of the healthcare team at veterinary hospitals and clinics, featuring photos from OVC’s HSC.

Thanks to all our RVTs for your dedication, compassion and hard work!
